We’re currently recruiting. Hear more about the role from existing trustee, Brendan:

Trustee, Brendan Gough smiling“I became a trustee after my sister in law was cared for by Saint Michael’s inpatient team. The hospice managed everything so well, I wanted to give something back.

“As a Social Psychology professor, I’ve not been in the charity sector before. It was like entering a whole new world. I’ve really enjoyed learning how everything works and what it takes to run an organisation like this.

“Alongside me on the board are people from the world of finance, law and medicine. You always find out interesting things when we meet.

“It’s a nice, friendly group and the conversation is always constructive. I really enjoy meeting people. It’s rewarding- I appreciate the shared sense of purpose and unity.

“Sometimes, you take on the role of a critical friend, gently making suggestions and guidance.

“With my experience of researching mental health, I’ve been involved in supporting the Just ‘B’ emotional wellbeing service and connected the team with my colleagues in the field.

“Just ‘B’ has grown exponentially since I joined. I’ve enjoyed seeing its progress and being a part of it.

“Having different perspectives and experiences on our board is really important. Views from outside the sector are just as important as inside, since it offers new ways of doing things.

“It would be great to see a more diverse group to help us think outside the box.

“I would recommend becoming a trustee- contributing feels good.”
