Volunteer Visitors

Saint Michael’s Volunteer Visitor service provides reliable social and emotional support to people in their own homes. Volunteer support can range from help with simply being there and listening to a short drive or walk out. Volunteer visitors can also assist with light practical tasks such as gardening, or a lift to an appointment.

This support also allows carers to take a valuable break, helping them to feel confident that they can continue their caring role for as long as possible.

A Volunteer Visitor can be sourced for anybody who has been affected by terminal illness – this could be a carer or a patient to support with isolation.

All volunteer visitors are fully trained and are supported by a range of Saint Michael’s specialists.

All volunteers are supervised by members of the patient care team and are thoroughly checked by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

You can be referred by any healthcare professional by email or telephone. Once referred, we will arrange a home visit so that we can assess how the service is able to meet your needs.

The volunteer visitor scheme is part of Saint Michael’s Wellbeing Network – a range of services to support practical, social, emotional, physical and spiritual needs. Our team work together with you and professionals involved in your care to offer a package of support that helps people live with confidence, independence and dignity.
