Support us with your valuable skills and time

At the heart of hospice care

Saint Michael's was founded by a small, dedicated group of volunteers and, 30 years later, they remain at the heart of almost everything we do.

We have plenty of interesting and rewarding volunteering opportunities available. So, if you can offer a few hours a week to help us, we'd love to hear from you.

There are lots of ways to support

Find the right role to fit your skills and the time you can offer. Here are some of the key roles we're currently looking for support with:

Support people living with Motor Neurone Disease

We're looking for volunteers to join our Wellbeing Network, offering support to people living with MND and their families. Join our taster course on January 10 to learn how to give therapeutic hand massage to patients, help out at our monthly support group, or become a volunteer visiting people in their own home, for a couple of hours a week. Full training and support will be given. E: info@saintmichaelshospice for more information about these rewarding opportunities.

Be part of our retail team

Help us create a safe and welcoming environment in our community stores. We currently have a particular need at Saint Michael’s stores in Knaresborough, Starbeck, Station Parade, Ripon and Leeds Road, Harrogate.

Volunteer collection box coordinator

Every £1 makes a difference to our care and this flexible role, suitable for a driver, means we can make the most of opportunities to have collection boxes out in our community, at shops, pubs and businesses. You'll receive training and support.

Gardening volunteers

This vital team helps create a welcoming and tranquil environment for patients, families and visitors, using their gardening skills to enhance and improve our beautiful grounds.

Inpatient meal volunteers

Meals are an important part of the day at our hospice - help our catering team by delivering evening meals and beverages to our patients at the hospice, between 4-6pm.

Volunteer kitchen assistant

A varied part time role ideal for someone seeking some catering work experience. You'll be supporting our amazing catering team, by helping prepare ingredients for the tasty nutritious food we serve our hospice patients, keeping an eye on stock levels and receiving deliveries.

Volunteer bereavement support worker for children and young people

We're looking for caring people to apply as a volunteer bereavement support worker, offering specialist support for children and young people with our Just 'B' Team. Once your training has been completed, you'll offer around 4 hours a week to this rewarding role.

Volunteer receptionist

Our reception volunteers are the first impression people get of Saint Michael's. You can choose from morning or afternoon slots on days to suit you. We're looking for people with some admin skills and a friendly, professional manner for this interesting and rewarding role. You'll also receive support and training.

Did you know we have more than 600 volunteers? They are involved in almost every aspect of our work so we can't do what we do, without YOU.

What we do really helps

"I get so much out of volunteering at the Starbeck shop. I love meeting people, taking to customers and the other volunteers. It's great knowing that what we do really helps other people."
