At the heart of hospice care

Saint Michael’s was founded by a small, dedicated group of volunteers and, 30 years later, they remain at the heart of almost everything we do.

We have plenty of interesting and rewarding volunteering opportunities available. So, if you can offer a few hours a week to help us, we’d love to hear from you.

There are lots of ways to support

Find the right role to fit your skills and the time you can offer. Here are some of the key roles we're currently looking for support with:

Help out with online retail sales

Help us list fabulous preloved items to sell on sites like eBay and Vinted.

Be part of our retail team

Help us create a safe and welcoming environment in our community's charity shops.

Inpatient unit volunteer

Provide practical, emotional, and social support to patients and their loved ones alongside the clinical team.

Collect food donations from supermarkets

Local supermarkets kindly supply us with food items which we can use at the hospice. In order to benefit from this,, we need volunteers to pick up on selected evenings and drop off at the hospice. Around 2 hours a week is required and you will need your own transport.

Help us with fundraising and community events

The ideal role if you can only offer help on an occasional basis - be part of a team we can call on to help support us at our events. You might be handing out refreshments on a fundraising hike, staffing a stall at a Christmas fair, marshaling at a fundraising event or collecting in a shopping centre.

Volunteer receptionists

Support our reception staff based at Crimple House - the first point of contact for anybody arriving at the Hospice.
Key responsibilities will include answering and directing telephone enquiries, greeting patients, patient visitors and staff ensuring they are warmly welcomed at all times and undertaking a variety of administration tasks using Word and Excel.

Wellbeing Volunteers

Be there for patients looking for social connection, or support with getting to appointments.

Volunteer Van Driver

Help transport our fabulous preloved shop stock across the Harrogate district, including collecting furniture donations.

Volunteer Complementary Therapist

Looking for complementary therapists to deliver aromatherapy, massage, reflexology, reiki and hypnotherapy to patients and loved ones.

Did you know we have more than 500 volunteers? They are involved in almost every aspect of our work so we can't do what we do, without YOU.
