Our shops have scooped a number of titles in the Soroptimist International Harrogate & District’s Charity Shop Window competition! We’re delighted to receive this kind recognition for our volunteers’ and staff’s hard work in bringing festive comfort and joy to their local communities.
Our Bilton shop won the gold award in the Knaresborough with Starbeck and Bilton area, while our Starbeck shop won silver. Our Cold Bath Road and Ripon shops were also highly commended in their respective areas.
Sarah, one of our volunteers in our Bilton shop which helped put the winning window together said: “I’ve been doing the window for quite a few years now and always try to make displays creative and as professional as possible.
Describing this year’s window, Sarah said: “I am a musician and wanted to use musical notes and instruments to convey ‘We wish you a Merry Christmas’. I was excited to collaborate with my artist friend, Louisa Loves Painting, who kindly added the window art which completes the design. I had access to the instruments, and we saved some donated sheet music to make the origami stars so everything ties in.
“The whole team work really hard to make the shop inviting, and it’s always lovely when customers comment on the window displays, and how nice everything looks inside.
“Ultimately, we are there to raise money for Saint Michael’s , so it’s very rewarding when we can contribute to a pleasant shopping experience which helps our charity provide care support for local families.”
Thanks to all who also voted for our Knaresborough and Ripon shops in the Charity Retail Association Wow Factor awards. We’re pleased to share that our Ripon shop have been shortlisted for their internal and window displays, and winners will be announced in the new year.
