Saint Michael’s Hospice responds to Parliament debate on hospice funding

Today Parliament is debating hospice funding. Across our family of services, which also includes Herriot Hospice Homecare, a quarter of our care is government funded. The majority, and access to specialist support beyond the reach of stretched NHS services, is funded by your remarkable generosity through fundraising, grants, gifts in wills and so much more.

As you may have seen from our recent Inflation Appeal, we’re projected to only receive a 1.2% uplift in our government funding this year – well below the rate of inflation. Although not impacting the care we offer currently, we expect this shortfall will if action isn’t taken. That isn’t right and it isn’t fair on those we serve.

Along with Hospice UK and hospices across the country, we continue to seek urgent action on statutory funding and are pleased this issue is being debated today.
