Our three year strategy

For more than three decades, Saint Michael’s has supported thousands of people and their families living with terminal illness and bereavement. Now, with a greater need for our services than ever before, we know we cannot afford to stand still. Now is the time to redouble our commitment to our community and make a greater impact, reaching more people, with more services.

Courage and ambition

We know our aspirations are ambitious, but the environment we find ourselves in demands such a response. We have a rapidly ageing population and more people are living with more complex health and social care problems than ever experienced by generations before them. This comes at a time when the NHS is facing significant issues, including a widening gap between the amount of resources available and demand for services.

Stepping up

These factors put us at a critical point, which, should further developments in health and social care not happen, could mean that there will be significant numbers of people in our community not getting the care they need in the future.

We have seen the key role organisations like ours have to play in end of life care, and have demonstrated our ability to step up in response to the needs of our local, regional and national communities as part of the pandemic.

The four key drivers for our new strategy are:

Meeting unmet need

We want everyone who needs hospice care to have access to the right support, at the right time. This means developing our services, and creating new packages of care, to respond to the needs of our community.

Improving accessibility

We are committed to breaking down barriers to ensure that everyone who needs hospice care can access the right support at the right time.

Nurturing sustainability

We have a duty to our community to make sure we can continue to care now, and in the future. Our strategy sees us nurture the most effective, sustainable ways of funding and providing our services.

Collaboration and partnership working

We are passionate about working together with professionals in our community and nationwide to offer the highest quality care and support. By sharing knowledge and expertise, we can ensure more people affected by terminal illness - whatever their diagnosis - get care which is personalised and responsive to their needs.

Our promise to you

Our three-year strategy, launched in 2021, pledges that we will forge even stronger bonds across our communities to do as much as we can, as well as we can, for a long as we can, for as many as we can.

We have seen the key role organisations like ours have to play in end of life care, and have demonstrated our ability to step up in response to the needs of our local, regional and national communities as part of the pandemic.

Together with you, we'll make our aspirations a reality in the following ways:

Making our current services even better

Our community tells us there are so many things that make our care special. Now, we must look at continuing and improving our care and support, both now and in the years to come.

Expanding our range of services

Expanding the range of services we provide to ensure everybody across our community receives high quality care and support when they need it most.

Developing our services

Developing our services to ensure they are doing the most they can to support people living with terminal illness and bereavement across the Harrogate district.
