Saint Michael’s Volunteer Visitor service provides reliable social support to people in their own homes. Volunteer support can range from help with simply being there and listening to a short drive or walk out.
This support also allows carers to take a valuable break, helping them to feel confident that they can continue their caring role for as long as possible.
The service is the only one of its kind in the Harrogate district and is open to anyone over 18 years of age who is living with a terminal illness. You do not need to have any prior connection with Saint Michael’s to be referred for support.
We ar also able to offer support to anyone who has served in the Armed Forces, as part of the Armed Forces Covenant support. This can be in the form of emotional wellbeing, bereavement or counselling support, or a volunteer visitor to help with confidence or to reduce isolation.
All volunteer visitors are fully trained and are supported by a range of Saint Michael’s community specialists, including our occupational therapist, social worker, physiotherapist, specialist MND practitioner, and the community clinical nurse specialist team.
All Saint Michael’s volunteers are supervised by members of the patient care team and are thoroughly checked by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
You can be referred by any healthcare professional by letter, email or telephone. Once referred, we will arrange a home visit so that we can assess how the service is able to meet your needs.
To talk to someone about how a Volunteer Visitor could support you, a friend or family member, get in touch to discuss your needs.
