Meet Alison

Your Hospice Receptionist

At Saint Michael’s, our reception team is often the first friendly face families and visitors meet. We spoke to Alison, our receptionist, about her role and what makes working here so meaningful.
Can you describe what you do on a day-to-day basis?

My role is all about welcoming people. We greet families and visitors, take deliveries, and support patients arriving by ambulance or with their families. We also work with funeral directors and see people throughout their journey with Saint Michael’s. Reception feels like the hub of the organisation, you see everything behind the scenes and front of house.

What did you do before Saint Michael’s?

I worked in further education and financial services, all customer-facing roles, so I hope those skills translate well to reception.

How does Saint Michael’s care stand out?

It’s the personal touch. Because we’re small, we can support patients and families in the way they need, before, during, and after someone dies.

Is there a moment or patient that has stayed with you?

There are so many. It’s lovely when patients can enjoy the garden, especially if the family isn’t always there. Being able to spend time with them, even briefly, is really special.

What does it feel like to work within hospice care?

It’s a great privilege. Being able to support families in those moments is incredibly meaningful. Reception is, in my opinion, the best role in the organisation because you get to see everything and support people at such an important time.

Like Alison, our team makes a real difference every day. You can help us keep this care going by donating today. Every gift helps to make a real difference to the care we provide.
