Working in collaboration as part of health and wellbeing programme for patients living with incurable cancer

As well as offering a range of services from our Hornbeam Park-based hospice, and out in the community in people’s own homes, we are also passionate about working in partnership to enable others to offer hospice-standard care.

This June and July, members of our Saint Michael’s team will be working in collaboration with NHS trusts and other professionals such as dieticians, mindfulness practitioners and benefits advisors to offer practical advice as part of an online health and wellbeing programme for patients living with incurable cancer.

The programme is co-ordinated by Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, along with Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust and The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, and is available to people who may or may not be receiving treatment, as well as their families. Sessions include information on managing uncertainty, financial matters and estates planning, diet, physical activity, faith and spirituality, advance care planning, support services such as local hospices, decisions, care and managing symptoms such as fatigue.

We’re proud to be able to share our expertise alongside colleagues from across the region, and our Occupational Therapist Iona Kerris, will be leading a session on managing fatigue, and Clinical Director Kathy Newbould on hospice services.

The aim of the Thinking Ahead Programme is to help people live life to the full with support for them and their families, and offers information about local services, an opportunity to consider future planning towards the end of life and a chance to meet key people who may be able to help in the future. The sessions also offer time for people to ask questions and share concerns.

The free programme runs across a seven week period, from Tuesday June 8 – Tuesday July 20, from 1.30pm – 3pm, and takes place virtually via Microsoft Teams. If you would like to access the programme, or are a professional wishing to make a referral, you can find out more by contacting:
