Lizzie Teggin has worked on our Inpatient Unit for the last eleven years, caring for patients living with terminal illness. Here she shares her experiences of being a part of the team…
“It’s the ultimate reward to be able to support families at such a challenging time in their life and bring them some comfort.
“With a high patient to staff ratio, we have time to really care for each individual and family member. It’s the kind of nursing I’d always hoped to do while I was studying and am so thankful to be working in palliative care.
“I love my job so much, and love being at work because it’s so rewarding. We have such an awesome team.
“Some people think it must be sad to work for a hospice. Actually, it’s the happiest place. We call it ‘Crimple Magic’: the peacefulness, kindness and loveliness of the people is just the best. I don’t think I’ve ever met so many friendly people in one place!
“The team around me are so supportive and warm. We’re often laughing together and they’re always there for you when you need them.
“While our care has progressed to meet the new complexities that patients face, the crux of what we do has always stayed the same: giving patients and families the best possible experience.
“Being able to work shifts on rotation has allowed me to spend precious time with my children while still having opportunities to work autonomously and progress in my career.
“I feel so lucky to be a part of the Saint Michael’s team.”
